The Characteristics Of Autism

If you are living with the Characteristics Of Autism,

then you are not alone! Does your child have

"odd Behaviors" that make you want to pull your hair out?

After the Signs of Autism, comes these

"odd behaviors" that can at times threaten the very

safety of your child and, your sanity as a parent.

These behaviors range from Head banging, Biting,

Hand Flappingto Stimming, to tantrums. A day

with my son is always an adventure to say

the least.  He has left me clueless and speechless

as a parent more times then I care  to count!

But through  all of this he has truly been a great teacher!

Some of the hardest characteristics for us to cope

with were Pica Eating Disorder  and Self Injurious Behaviors.

I have learned the hard way that giving my son idle time is not

productive. Without structure he will invent new

Characteristics Of Autism, while we are still trying to deal with last one!

We have learned how to redirect certain behaviors to something

more Appropriate, like Hand Flapping has become Clapping hands.

Without imaginative play, they deal with logic.

For my son when he was bored

he would problem solve, even if that meant

coming up with a problem to solve.

When he was two, we had baby gates through

the house. He would take something and

throw it over the gate and experiment with ways

to get it back. He started by seeing how many times

Momma would fetch the toy.

He started by seeing how many times Momma would

fetch the toy. Mom was only good for a couple of rounds

of fetch, so on to other ways. He would then stack every toy he

had at his hands to get over the baby gate.

other things over to knock something closer or further.

These problem solving skills he was working on showed me that

my child was not without the ability to learn.

I could have ignored these things and done nothing and

let my son become a mastermind at escaping or, I

could take small tasks and let him put his energy into

a skill that would improve a problem.

If my son could stack

toys then he can put toys away! If he threw a toy,

he needed to put it away. How many times do you think

he would throw it if he had to clean it up?
